One of the books I’ve been introduced to in this program is Lincoln’s Melancholy by Joshua Wolf Shenk.
I found myself not thinking only of the dauntingness of potential, but instead found myself thinking of the victories. I may not some day free an enslaved population, but people have told me already that I’ve helped them. It may be carrying bags to a car, but it’s something to someone.
Being that someone for others has to be enough for the times I don’t feel I can be that someone for myself.
